  • Background information from both universities
  • Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi (KNUST)
  • University of Ghana Medical School in Accra (UGMS)


Coffee break at 10:30 – 11:00 AM

Presentation of work packages - Main areas and research subjects for PhD projects

  • WP2 Microbiology (by Niels Frimodt-Møller)
  • WP4 Health (by Britt Pinkowski Tersbøl)
  • WP3 Pharmacology (by Bjarne Styrishave)


Introduction to group work (by Anders Dalsgaard)

Work in groups WP2, WP3 AND WP4

Discuss research areas presented; which research problems should PhD students focus on; involvement of non-PhD fellow researchers. Prepare 3-4 slides on research subjects for the work packages.


LUNCH 1:00-2:00 PM

  • Presentation of group work (each 10 min)
  • Plenum discussion

Coffee break at 4:00 – 4:30 PM

  • PhD formalities (description of course, ‘sandwich-programme’, PhD-advisers, enrolment, etc.) (Anders Dalsgaard)
  • Needs Assessment – what it is and why should we make one (Karsten Nellemann Kryger)


Thursday (day 2)

  • Presentation on existing field areas (research sites). Factual data, Actual situation in hospitals (UGMS)
  • Status at hospital and other laboratories. (15 min’s video of workflow in laboratories) (UGMS)
  • Discussion and conclusions.

The way forward on initiating research – incl. PhD and post-doc research.

  • PhD fellow and supervision teams 1-6.
  • Internal and external project communication
